Al-Ahzab 33:53

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تَدۡخُلُواْ بُيُوتَ ٱلنَّبِيِّ إِلَّآ أَن يُؤۡذَنَ لَكُمۡ إِلَىٰ طَعَامٍ غَيۡرَ نَٰظِرِينَ إِنَىٰهُ وَلَٰكِنۡ إِذَا دُعِيتُمۡ فَٱدۡخُلُواْ فَإِذَا طَعِمۡتُمۡ فَٱنتَشِرُواْ وَلَا مُسۡتَـٔۡنِسِينَ لِحَدِيثٍۚ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكُمۡ كَانَ يُؤۡذِي ٱلنَّبِيَّ فَيَسۡتَحۡيِۦ مِنكُمۡۖ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَسۡتَحۡيِۦ مِنَ ٱلۡحَقِّۚ وَإِذَا سَأَلۡتُمُوهُنَّ مَتَٰعٗا فَسۡـَٔلُوهُنَّ مِن وَرَآءِ حِجَابٖۚ ذَٰلِكُمۡ أَطۡهَرُ لِقُلُوبِكُمۡ وَقُلُوبِهِنَّۚ وَمَا كَانَ لَكُمۡ أَن تُؤۡذُواْ رَسُولَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَآ أَن تَنكِحُوٓاْ أَزۡوَٰجَهُۥ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦٓ أَبَدًاۚ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكُمۡ كَانَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ عَظِيمًا

O believers! Do not enter the homes of the Prophet without permission ˹and if invited˺ for a meal, do not ˹come too early and˺ linger until the meal is ready. But if you are invited, then enter ˹on time˺. Once you have eaten, then go on your way, and do not stay for casual talk. Such behaviour is truly annoying to the Prophet, yet he is too shy to ask you to leave. But Allah is never shy of the truth. And when you ˹believers˺ ask his wives for something, ask them from behind a barrier. This is purer for your hearts and theirs. And it is not right for you to annoy the Messenger of Allah, nor ever marry his wives after him. This would certainly be a major offence in the sight of Allah.

إِنَىٰهُ

ināhu

its preparation

وَلَٰكِنۡ

walākin

But

إِذَا

idhā

when

دُعِيتُمۡ

duʿītum

you are invited

Root: دعو

فَٱدۡخُلُواْ

fa-ud'khulū

then enter

Root: دخل

فَإِذَا

fa-idhā

and when

طَعِمۡتُمۡ

ṭaʿim'tum

you have eaten

Root: طعم

فَٱنتَشِرُواْ

fa-intashirū

then disperse

Root: نشر

وَلَا

walā

and not

مُسۡتَـٔۡنِسِينَ

mus'tanisīna

seeking to remain

Root: انس

لِحَدِيثٍۚ

liḥadīthin

for a conversation

Root: حدث

إِنَّ

inna

Indeed

ذَٰلِكُمۡ

dhālikum

that

كَانَ

kāna

was

Root: كون

يُؤۡذِي

yu'dhī

troubling

Root: اذي

ٱلنَّبِيَّ

l-nabiya

the Prophet

Root: نبا

فَيَسۡتَحۡيِۦ

fayastaḥyī

and he is shy

مِنكُمۡۖ

minkum

of (dismissing) you

وَٱللَّهُ

wal-lahu

But Allah

Root: اله

لَا

lā

is not shy

يَسۡتَحۡيِۦ

yastaḥyī

is not shy

مِنَ

mina

of

ٱلۡحَقِّۚ

l-ḥaqi

the truth

Root: حقق

وَإِذَا

wa-idhā

And when

سَأَلۡتُمُوهُنَّ

sa-altumūhunna

you ask them

Root: سال

مَتَٰعٗا

matāʿan

for something

Root: متع

فَسۡـَٔلُوهُنَّ

fasalūhunna

then ask them

Root: سال

مِن

min

from

وَرَآءِ

warāi

behind

Root: وري

حِجَابٖۚ

ḥijābin

a screen

Root: حجب

ذَٰلِكُمۡ

dhālikum

That

أَطۡهَرُ

aṭharu

(is) purer

Root: طهر

لِقُلُوبِكُمۡ

liqulūbikum

for your hearts

Root: قلب

وَقُلُوبِهِنَّۚ

waqulūbihinna

and their hearts

Root: قلب

وَمَا

wamā

And not

كَانَ

kāna

is

Root: كون

لَكُمۡ

lakum

for you

أَن

an

that

تُؤۡذُواْ

tu'dhū

you trouble

Root: اذي

رَسُولَ

rasūla

(the) Messenger

Root: رسل

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

(of) Allah

Root: اله

وَلَآ

walā

and not

أَن

an

that

تَنكِحُوٓاْ

tankiḥū

you should marry

Root: نكح

أَزۡوَٰجَهُۥ

azwājahu

his wives

مِنۢ

min

after him

بَعۡدِهِۦٓ

baʿdihi

after him

أَبَدًاۚ

abadan

ever

Root: ابد

إِنَّ

inna

Indeed

ذَٰلِكُمۡ

dhālikum

that

كَانَ

kāna

is

Root: كون

عِندَ

ʿinda

near

Root: عند

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

Allah

Root: اله

عَظِيمًا

ʿaẓīman

an enormity
