Question
Is it forbidden to use contraception for two years at the beginning of marriage by mutual consent and until both parties are certain that the marriage will continue?
Answer
Praise be to Allah.This question was put to Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen,
who answered as follows:
“This is not forbidden, but it is better not to do this, and to be
optimistic and think positively of Allaah [i.e., put one’s trust in Him that the
marriage will succeed].”
Having a child might bring the couple together and create deeper ties
between them, and bring them both great joy. And Allaah is the Source of strength.
