Aslam

general Sign in to save

There has been a great deal of dispute concerning perfuming oneself with cologne. Is it prescribed for the Muslim who has wudoo’ to renew it after using cologne, or to wash off any cologne that has got onto his body?

Praise be to Allah.

The perfume which is known as cologne is not free from the

substance which is known as alcohol and in an intoxicant, according to

medical opinion, so we should not use it, and instead we should use perfumes

that are free of that. As for doing wudoo’ after using it, it is not

obligatory and there is no need to wash off any of it that gets onto the

body, because there is no clear evidence to indicate that it is naajis

(impure). And Allaah is the Source of strength.
