Aaron — The Helper

Harun was Musa's older brother, given prophethood alongside him. When Musa prayed for a helper, he asked for Harun: "And appoint for me a minister from my family — Harun, my brother. Increase through him my strength and let him share my task." Allah granted this request.

When Musa went to Mount Sinai to receive the Torah, he left Harun in charge of the people. In his absence, a man named Samiri fashioned a golden calf from the people's jewellery, and it made a sound. The people began worshipping it. Harun warned them: "O my people, you are only being tested by it, and indeed, your Lord is the Most Merciful, so follow me and obey my command." But they refused to stop until Musa returned.

When Musa came back and saw them worshipping the calf, he was furious. He grabbed his brother by the beard. Harun cried: "O son of my mother, do not seize me by my beard or by my head. Indeed, I feared that you would say, 'You caused division among the Children of Israel, and you did not observe my word.'"
