Al-Ma'idah 5:48

وَأَنزَلۡنَآ إِلَيۡكَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ مُصَدِّقٗا لِّمَا بَيۡنَ يَدَيۡهِ مِنَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَمُهَيۡمِنًا عَلَيۡهِۖ فَٱحۡكُم بَيۡنَهُم بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُۖ وَلَا تَتَّبِعۡ أَهۡوَآءَهُمۡ عَمَّا جَآءَكَ مِنَ ٱلۡحَقِّۚ لِكُلّٖ جَعَلۡنَا مِنكُمۡ شِرۡعَةٗ وَمِنۡهَاجٗاۚ وَلَوۡ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَجَعَلَكُمۡ أُمَّةٗ وَٰحِدَةٗ وَلَٰكِن لِّيَبۡلُوَكُمۡ فِي مَآ ءَاتَىٰكُمۡۖ فَٱسۡتَبِقُواْ ٱلۡخَيۡرَٰتِۚ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ مَرۡجِعُكُمۡ جَمِيعٗا فَيُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمۡ فِيهِ تَخۡتَلِفُونَ

We have revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ this Book with the truth, as a confirmation of previous Scriptures and a supreme authority on them. So judge between them by what Allah has revealed, and do not follow their desires over the truth that has come to you. To each of you We have ordained a code of law and a way of life. If Allah had willed, He would have made you one community, but His Will is to test you with what He has given ˹each of˺ you. So compete with one another in doing good. To Allah you will all return, then He will inform you ˹of the truth˺ regarding your differences.

وَأَنزَلۡنَآ

wa-anzalnā

And We revealed

Root: نزل

إِلَيۡكَ

ilayka

to you

ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ

l-kitāba

the Book

Root: كتب

بِٱلۡحَقِّ

bil-ḥaqi

in [the] truth

Root: حقق

مُصَدِّقٗا

muṣaddiqan

confirming

Root: صدق

لِّمَا

limā

what

بَيۡنَ

bayna

(was) before

Root: بين

يَدَيۡهِ

yadayhi

his hands

Root: يدي

مِنَ

mina

of

ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ

l-kitābi

the Book

Root: كتب

وَمُهَيۡمِنًا

wamuhayminan

and a guardian

Root: همن

عَلَيۡهِۖ

ʿalayhi

over it

فَٱحۡكُم

fa-uḥ'kum

So judge

Root: حكم

بَيۡنَهُم

baynahum

between them

Root: بين

بِمَآ

bimā

by what

أَنزَلَ

anzala

has revealed

Root: نزل

ٱللَّهُۖ

l-lahu

Allah

Root: اله

وَلَا

walā

and (do) not

تَتَّبِعۡ

tattabiʿ

follow

Root: تبع

أَهۡوَآءَهُمۡ

ahwāahum

their vain desires

Root: هوي

عَمَّا

ʿammā

when

جَآءَكَ

jāaka

has come to you

Root: جيا

مِنَ

mina

of

ٱلۡحَقِّۚ

l-ḥaqi

the truth

Root: حقق

لِكُلّٖ

likullin

For each

Root: كلل

جَعَلۡنَا

jaʿalnā

We have made

Root: جعل

مِنكُمۡ

minkum

for you

شِرۡعَةٗ

shir'ʿatan

a law

Root: شرع

وَمِنۡهَاجٗاۚ

wamin'hājan

and a clear way

Root: نهج

وَلَوۡ

walaw

And if

شَآءَ

shāa

(had) willed

Root: شيا

ٱللَّهُ

l-lahu

Allah

Root: اله

لَجَعَلَكُمۡ

lajaʿalakum

He (would have) made you

Root: جعل

أُمَّةٗ

ummatan

a community

Root: امم

وَٰحِدَةٗ

wāḥidatan

one

Root: وحد

وَلَٰكِن

walākin

[and] but

لِّيَبۡلُوَكُمۡ

liyabluwakum

to test you

Root: بلو

فِي

fī

in

مَآ

mā

what

ءَاتَىٰكُمۡۖ

ātākum

He (has) given you

Root: اتي

فَٱسۡتَبِقُواْ

fa-is'tabiqū

so race

Root: سبق

ٱلۡخَيۡرَٰتِۚ

l-khayrāti

(to) the good

Root: خير

إِلَى

ilā

To

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

Allah

Root: اله

مَرۡجِعُكُمۡ

marjiʿukum

you will return

Root: رجع

جَمِيعٗا

jamīʿan

all

Root: جمع

فَيُنَبِّئُكُم

fayunabbi-ukum

then He will inform you

Root: نبا

بِمَا

bimā

of what

كُنتُمۡ

kuntum

you were

Root: كون

فِيهِ

fīhi

concerning it

تَخۡتَلِفُونَ

takhtalifūna

differing
