Aslam

Ismail was the firstborn son of Ibrahim, left as an infant with his mother Hajar in the barren, waterless valley of Makkah. When their water ran out, Hajar ran between the hills of Safa and Marwa seven times, desperately searching for water or help. Allah caused the well of Zamzam to spring forth beneath the infant's feet — a well that flows to this day.

Ismail grew up in that valley and became a prophet. He was true to his promises and commanded his family to prayer and charity. Allah was pleased with him.

When his father Ibrahim came to him with the vision of sacrifice, Ismail did not hesitate. "O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allah wills, among the patient." Father and son both submitted completely to Allah's will. This act of total surrender became the foundation of the annual Eid al-Adha sacrifice, commemorated by Muslims around the world.
